No matter what the outcome of tomorrow night’s debate, it has become apparent that the ultimate losers are We, the People. It is evident, that the collective cohorts of the media have decided, that no matter what the true issues are in this campaign, what they, the media, are most concerned with is that We, the People, keep watching, it, the campaign coverage.

It is a well known phenomenon that medical school students, when learning about diseases, often believe they are afflicted with the very ailment they are studying.  Similarly, it is almost human nature, that when we hear what we deem to be an interesting term, we think it must apply to us.  Probably taking this pathology into account, some evil genius in 2010 thought up this Enthusiasm Gap nonsense.

Let's say somebody's lying, right? And, you know they lying. Can you shoot 'em?

Although the above quote is from the 1988 film Armed and Dangerous, it's pretty much my summation of Mitt Romney's performance in wednesday night's debate.   And yet a plurality of the political pundits claim Romeny won the debate.  The right wing pundits, I can understand; no matter what the outcome, they would have said exactly the same thing.  What I don't understand is the pathetic performance of virtually all those pundits on the left, seemingly claiming Romney as the winner.

There have always been political issues about which certain factions of the population feel so strongly that they ignore all other matters, even their self interest, in order to further their chosen position in these afore mention matters.  Abortion, Gun control, same sex marriage, prayer in schools, animal rights, taxation, gays in the military … the list goes on.

When I was a young child, my mother told me that her great grandmother, was part Native American. She said that although Grandma Hawkins' hair was by that time completely white,  she styled it into two long braids, much like the the American Indians I had seen in the movies.  I didn't ask my mother for any proof or documentation of this, I just thought it was cool.

Since the days of the Regan administration, the right wing has controlled the political conversation, which is not particularly surprising, since they control most of the media outlets. What is however suprising, is there are certain terms that have become entrenched into the current political dialog that, though used by progressives as well as conservatives, do nothing to further progessive causes and in fact tend to cripple the conversation.
